Rocky Pass

One of the things I absolutely am excited for in the coming months is the prospect of further exploring the wilderness of North Cascades National Park.  The huge glacial valleys and craggy peaks are simply magical, and walking along the ridges and through the forests of this wilderness is one of the most primal experiences I’ve ever had the joy of undertaking.

This sweeping view of the Rock Creek valley from Rocky Pass along the Pacific Crest Trail is emblematic of all the things I love about the Park, and the Washington section of the Cascade mountains in general.  The valley drops away into a bowl that seems scooped out by some massive spoon, and the view seems to stretch into eternity.  The green of the hills and trees, the jutting spires of the surrounding mountains…all of it calls to me, pulls me to explore.

Just thinking about it makes me itch to get out there…
